Colophon
Note on the type
The text is set in Baskerville, a typeface based closely on designs by the Birmingham manufacturer and printer John Baskerville (1706–1775). Baskerville’s refined design marks a point of transition between ‘old’ faces like William Caslon’s, with a heritage going back to the fifteenth century, and ‘modern’ faces like the designs of Giambattista Bodoni and Firmin Didot.
